Aeration/De-thatching

Breathe new life into your lawn, unlock deeper roots, better water efficiency, and thicker, healthier grass with professional aeration and de-thatching.

These hot, dry summers and variable soils, lawns often suffer from compaction (from foot traffic, mowing, or clay buildup) and excess thatch (a layer of dead grass, roots, and debris that blocks air, water, and nutrients).

Compacted soil prevents roots from growing deep, leading to shallow, stressed turf that's prone to drought, weeds (like crabgrass or clover), thin patches, and poor nutrient uptake. Thick thatch (>1/2 inch) worsens this by creating a barrier, harboring pests/diseases, and encouraging more surface-level problems.

Our core aeration and power de-thatching services relieve these issues head-on, using commercial-grade equipment for thorough, effective results that DIY tools can't match.

What Our Aeration or De-thatching Service Includes:

  • Core Aeration — We use a powerful aerator to pull out small plugs of soil (2–3 inches deep) across the entire lawn, creating channels for air, water, and nutrients to reach roots quickly. Plugs are left on the surface to break down naturally, adding organic matter back to the soil.
  • Power De-thatching (Power Raking) — Aggressive vertical tines remove excess thatch and matted debris without damaging healthy grass, ideal when thatch exceeds ½ inch. We collect and haul away the material for a clean finish.
  • Combined Approach — Many clients benefit from de-thatching first (to clear the barrier), followed by aeration, maximizing penetration and recovery.
  • Post-Service Boosts — We often recommend (and can bundle) overseeding, topdressing, or fall fertilization right after to fill in thinned areas, improve soil, and supercharge regrowth.
  • Inspection & Advice — On-site assessment of compaction, thatch depth, soil type, and lawn condition, with tailored recommendations.

Best Timing:

  • Fall (late August–October) — The #1 window! Warm soil from summer speeds recovery, cooler air reduces stress, and natural fall moisture helps roots establish deep before winter—leading to explosive spring green-up.
  • Spring (April–May) — Good for lighter needs or if fall was missed; revives lawns after winter compaction or snow mold, prepping for summer growth.
